Owen’s Dream Debut and Green’s Heroics Steer Australia to Victory

Australia Beats West Indies in Exciting Match! 🏏

Score:

  • Australia: 190 runs for 7 wickets

  • West Indies: 189 runs for 8 wickets
    Australia won by 3 wickets

Mitchell Owen’s Amazing Debut + Green’s Fireworks! πŸ”₯

This match was super exciting! It happened at Sabina Park and was full of big hits, clever bowling, and great catches.

Let’s start with the stars of the game — Mitchell Owen and Cameron Green. It was Owen’s first-ever T20 match for Australia, and wow, what a debut! He took a wicket while bowling, and then with the bat, he scored 50 runs from just 27 balls! That’s really fast. He also hit six huge sixes (the ball flew over the boundary without touching the ground).

Green was just as awesome. He hit 51 runs off 26 balls, including five sixes and two boundaries. The two of them worked together and added 80 runs in only 40 balls! At one point, Australia was in trouble with only 78 runs and 4 wickets lost, but Owen and Green saved the day.

Australia hit a total of 17 sixes in the match, compared to just 9 sixes from West Indies.

Dwarshuis and Ellis — Masters of Death Bowling 🎯

Before Australia batted, Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis did a fantastic job bowling in the final overs (the "death" overs). Dwarshuis took 4 wickets for just 36 runs, including three wickets in one over! Together, he and Ellis gave away only 7 runs and took 4 wickets in the last 16 balls of West Indies' innings. That really stopped the West Indies from scoring even more.

West Indies Batters Start Strong πŸ’ͺ

For West Indies, Roston Chase and Shai Hope were their best players with the bat.

  • Chase scored 60 runs from 32 balls

  • Hope made 55 runs from 39 balls

  • Shimron Hetmyer also did well, scoring 38 from 19 balls

West Indies looked like they were going to get a huge total. They were at 123 runs for 1 wicket in the 13th over, and things were looking great for them.

Early On: A Great Start for West Indies 🌴

Since their usual opener Evin Lewis was injured, West Indies had a new top 3.

Brandon King started strong, smashing four boundaries in the first 3 overs! But then Cooper Connolly, a spinner from Australia, bowled him out and took his first-ever T20 International wicket. That slowed things down a bit.

Then Shai Hope took charge and hit a beautiful shot over the field using just the back foot — very classy!

Chase Lights Up the Middle Overs πŸš€

At first, Roston Chase wasn’t scoring quickly. But once the powerplay ended, he started hitting amazing shots. He attacked Connolly and Adam Zampa, hitting them for sixes. Then, in the 10th over, he hit four boundaries off Sean Abbott! One of those shots was a paddle scoop (where the batter kind of flicks the ball behind him), and he kept hitting in the same tricky spot. He was mixing power with smart shots — it was great to watch!

Then Came the Collapse πŸ’₯

Just when it seemed West Indies would reach 200+ runs, Ben Dwarshuis started the collapse. Chase tried to hit another big shot but got caught near the boundary. Then, Mitchell Owen made his first big impact with the ball, bowling a smart slow ball that made Hope hit it wrong — and he got out too.

Still, Hetmyer tried to go big. He hit two boundaries off Ellis to start the 18th over, but after that, West Indies started falling apart.

Bowling Magic by Ellis and Dwarshuis 🎩

Nathan Ellis bowled four perfect balls — mixing up slow balls and yorkers (balls that bounce very close to the batter’s feet). Then in the 19th over, Dwarshuis took three wickets for just one run — all caught near the boundary because the batters tried to hit big and missed.

In the final over, Ellis bowled again, and Cameron Green made an amazing diving catch near the rope to stop Hetmyer’s shot from going for six. That catch was super important — probably no one else on the team could have caught it like that.

In the last 5 overs, West Indies only scored 30 runs and lost 6 wickets! That turned the game around completely.

Australia Bats and Bounces Back! πŸ’₯

Now it was Australia’s turn to bat.

Things didn’t start too well.

  • Fraser-McGurk only scored 2 runs and got out.

  • Mitchell Marsh hit three big sixes but then got out too.

  • Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell also got out quickly.

Australia was in deep trouble.

Green and Owen Save the Day 🦸🦸‍♂️

But then came the partnership between Green and Owen. Neither of them usually bats in the middle order, but they did great under pressure!

  • Owen hit a six on his very first ball and followed up with more big shots.

  • In one over, he hit three sixes off Akeal Hosein to show he wasn’t afraid of spin bowling.

Green played very smart. He hit a few twos to keep the score moving without taking big risks. Then he exploded again, hitting more big shots and reaching 50 off just 25 balls!

But both Green and Owen got out trying to go big again. At that point, Australia still needed 15 runs from 21 balls.

A Tight Finish — But Australia Wins! ✅

The last few batters — Connolly, Dwarshuis, and Abbott — played carefully. West Indies even had a chance when Jewel Andrew (a substitute fielder) dropped a catch off Abbott. That drop made a big difference!

Then there was a close run-out chance, but Abbott made it safely.

Finally, Australia crossed the line and won the match with 7 balls to spare. It was a close one, but thanks to Owen, Green, and some great bowling, they managed to go 1-0 up in the series.
